These curly cats require regular combing and bathing to lessen loose hair and remove excess oils.History - Selkirk Rex is one of the newest breeds. Jeri Newman of Montana originated this curly cat from a housecat. She found Miss DePesto of Noface at a shelter and bred her to PhotoFinish of Deekay, a black Persian. Miss DePesto had six kittens, three of them were curly haired kittens. This proved that unlike Devon Rex and Cornish Rex, Miss DePesto's mutation was dominant. Curly haired kittens can be born in the same litter as straight haired kittens. This breed is still in development and they are still out crossed to Persians, British Shorthairs and Exotics.

Colors and Coats Types Available - Selkirk Rex come in a wide variety of colors. The curl is soft and plush and is most curly around the neck and tail.

Grooming and Care - These curly cats require regular combing and bathing to lessen loose hair and remove excess oils. Whether the kitten is short or long haired good grooming helps keep the coat silky and clean.

Best Suitable Environment - This breed is not for the organized pet owner. Humans must be prepared for all kinds of "bad hair" jokes and teasing. Selkirks may not win the beauty contest but they always win Miss Congeniality!

Personality Traits - The temperament of the Selkirk Rex reflects the breeds used in itsThe Selkirk Rex has the laid back reserved qualities of a British Shorthair, and the playfulness of the Exotics. development. They are out crossed to Persians, British Shorthairs, and Exotics. They have the laid back reserved qualities of a British Shorthair, and the playfulness of the Exotics. They most definitely have that cuddly nature of the Persian and are very patient, tolerant, and loving. They welcome cuddles and hugs and they feel so soft and plush you will enjoy it just as much as they do.

These sweet and loving kittens are a joy to be around. You may be the first in your area to have the distinct pleasure of calling a Selkirk Rex your "furry friend". Lucky You!
